Built To Go Further

The Backcountry Swell started with a simple goal: make tough, reliable gear that doesn’t wreck the places we ride. We use 100% recycled plastic, cut the extras, and test everything where failure isn’t an option. No gimmicks. No fluff. Just purpose-built, ultra sustainable outdoor products.

Past

It all started in 2017 with a broken plastic skateboard. Fast forward a few years, and we began prototyping skateboards made from 100% recycled plastic. After more than 100 prototypes we released our first product - The Swell Board. Shortly after came Recycled Surf Fins, The Fish Series full size Skateboard, BCS Approach Skis, Powsurfs & More.

Present

Right now, we’re focused on making gear that does good. All of our products are built using recycled plastic, including beach plastic collected during our cleanups. Every product is designed to be both affordable and sustainable, because we believe better gear shouldn't cost the earth.

Future

Our future is waste. Seriously. We want to collect & process more of it, and prove that the best materials are the ones already out there. We're working on new rides for the backcountry and the beach, made from the same recycled plastic that got us here.

We're scaling up our recycling efforts, growing our cleanup programs, and turning more discarded plastic into functional tools for the outdoors.

Our Story

BCS started with a busted plastic skateboard and a big idea: what if we could turn waste into something worth riding?

We began melting down old plastic in a garage and shaping it into something new. After a lot of trial and error (and more than 100 prototypes), we dropped our first deck: the Swell Board. From there, we added surf fins, full-size skateboards, and eventually winter gear like approach skis, stomp pads, and powsurfs.  All made from recycled plastic.

We're not here to greenwash or go corporate. We’re a small crew trying to make good stuff out of garbage. Everything we make is built with purpose, priced for real people, and made from plastic that would’ve ended up in a landfill or worse, the ocean.

This is just the beginning. Thanks for being part of it.
